Right to existence: curatorial proposal by Janaina Torres Galeria for 2024

The continuity of diverse forms of life, put on hold by the tensions and dizzying contemporary pace, is the guiding principle of Janaina Torres Galeria's curatorial project for 2024, carried out in collaboration with curator Shannon Botelho.

Prepared from the concept of the right to existence, this is a proposal that, in exhibitions and cultural actions, considers how visual arts can incorporate pressing demands, such as the maintenance of knowledge, traditions and cultures and contribute to the maintenance of life and human dignity, in a context that celebrates discontinuity.

Four axes support the artistic investigations that will be presented throughout the year (see schedule below): Time; Archaeologies; Other Ecologies; Faith and Belief. Interconnected, they unfold into themes such as erasure, memory, collectivity, religiosity and nature and landscape, among others.
