Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum. Dangerous Women

Dangerous Women will present more than twenty paintings and etchings from the rich holdings of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. The exhibition explores women of the Bible as portrayed by 16th and 17th-century artists, including Pietro da Cortona and Jan Saenredam. The exhibition will conclude with a modern and contemporary coda: Robert Henri's sensuous Salome from 1901 and Michalene Thomas’ Portrait of Mamma Bush, 2010, a reminder of the tenacious appeal of the subject.

Join us on opening night for an enlightening panel discussion on the representation of women in art with moderator Director, Dr. Jordana Pomeroy, and panelists: Mary D. Garrard, Professor Emerita of Art History, American University; Kimberly L. Dennis, Associate Professor of Art History, Rollins College; and Guido Ruggiero, Professor of History, University of Miami.

The panel discussion and exhibition opening are free and open to the public. Members of the museum gain exclusive access to our Members’ reception, with refreshments, wine, and beer.

This exhibition has been organized by The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, the State Art Museum of Florida, Florida State University, Sarasota, FL.

Support for this exhibition is made possible through FUNDING ARTS NETWORK, INC.
