A festival that reveres salsa

More than 400 foreign participants have confirmed their presence in the fourth edition of the International Salsa Festival that will take place from February 19 to 24 in the Metropolitan Park of Havana.

From France, Italy, Spain, Panama, Chile, Peru and Mexico will come dancers to enjoy the intense program that reserves the appointment in order to show the best of the popular dance music that is currently done on the island.

The president of the event, Maykel Blanco, explained at a press conference held at the Solidarity Hall of the Havana Libre Hotel in the Cuban capital, that foreign participants will be received at the Salon Rosado de la Tropical, on the 19th, where they will be able to enjoy of the performances of Yasser Ramos y su Tumbao Mayombe and the Orquesta de Yumurí y sus Hermanos.

Starting on the 20th and until the 24th from five in the afternoon, those who arrive at the Metropolitan Park will have at their disposal the already traditional comparsas rides, casino dance workshops and presentations of Djs from Spain, Italy, Germany and Slovenia, said the director of the Salsa Mayor orchestra.

The highlight of the festival will be the performances of prestigious groups of the playground such as Havana D´Primera, NG La Banda, Haila María Mompié, Adalberto Álvarez y los Van Van, among others. A total of 19 groups will make dance to all who arrive there and the ticket will be for sale in the park for a price of 50 Cuban pesos.

One of the most anticipated moments of the event will undoubtedly be the presentation for the first time in Cuba of the Puerto Rican singer Jerry Rivera with his group on February 20, said Blanco.

For foreign participants, the festival has also reserved a program of activities that will give them the opportunity to receive dance workshops, music and visit emblematic places in the city, such as the Amadeo Roldán School. The national public will also have access to the sale of discography, cultural products and a varied gastronomic offer.

Sponsored by the Company of Carnivals, ARTex, Paradiso, Musicalia, the Cuban Institute of Music and the Ministry of Culture; the IV International Salsa Festival will be dedicated to the anniversaries 500 of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal in Havana, 100 of the birth of Benny Moré and 30 of the foundation of ARTex. Also, the closing gala will commemorate the 50th anniversary of one of the orchestras of Cuban music, Los Van Van.
