The Cuban company Acosta Danza, under the artistic direction of world-renowned dancer Carlos Acosta, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with the special season A Decade in Movement, to be held at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba on September 5, 6, and 7, 2025.
The program features major premieres and revivals that showcase the artistic diversity of the ensemble. Highlights include the Cuban premiere of 98 Days, by Spanish-Venezuelan choreographer Javier de Frutos, a piece inspired by the stay of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca on the island. Acosta Danza will also stage for the first time La ecuación, one of the most significant and acclaimed works by Cuban choreographer Georges Céspedes.
The season will also feature the revival of Llamada, by Spanish choreographer Goyo Montero, and De punta a cabo, staged by Yaday Ponce based on the original work by Alexis Fernández, a piece that was nominated in 2022 for the Laurence Olivier Award in the United Kingdom, the most prestigious prize for the performing arts in that country.
Another special aspect of this anniversary program is the presentation of a completely renewed cast, made up entirely of young dancers who graduated from the company’s academy.
Tickets for A Decade in Movement will go on sale at the National Theater’s box office starting Tuesday, September 2.
A decade of artistic excellence

Founded on September 28, 2015, Acosta Danza has established itself over the past ten years as one of Cuba’s most prominent cultural ambassadors worldwide. Since its first public performance on April 8, 2016, the company has built a repertoire that blends contemporary and neoclassical dance with influences from ballet, modern dance, and Cuban folklore.
In 2024, Acosta Danza received the National Dance Award of the United Kingdom in the category of Best Medium-Sized Company, adding to its international recognition.
Carlos Acosta, founder, director, and principal dancer, has emphasized that the company’s spirit lies in developing versatile dancers capable of combining Cuba’s rich musical and dance traditions with both contemporary and classical languages, producing a repertoire that is distinctive and constantly evolving.
As Acosta wrote on social media: “It is hard to believe that Acosta Danza is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! What started as an idea in Cuba has become a company performing on stages all over the world – what an incredible journey.”
With A Decade in Movement, Acosta Danza celebrates its history, international projection, and the renewed energy that will sustain its artistic path in the years ahead.
