Huellas célebres at Cuba’s National Hotel

On this November 12th, 6:00 p.m., an exhibition entitled Huellas célebres will kick off at Cuba’s National Hotel, which is the work of Cuban artist Liudmila Lopez Dominguez, as part of the activities for the 80th anniversary of this institution, jewel of Cuban hotel business.

The hotel’s history might be told from multiple viewpoints. Liudmila has decided to represent, through sculpture, some personalities who have visited the hotel. Her work has been characterized by the exploration of aesthetic qualities of footwear and it value as fetish and worship object, especially for female genre. In this case, she alludes to the “footprint” made by every human being, taking the image “built” on every individual in a previous and intense research.

The Historic Hall, also known as Hall of Fame, turns to be the ideal space to display this project, since both the sculptures and the photographs will stay together for as long as the exhibit lasts. In the framework of the National Hotel’s 80th anniversary celebration, this exhibition becomes a space for historical memory activation, looking at those who played the leading role in most events held there. The shoe, also symbol of transit and movement, will relate milestones of a legend which is still been written.
