Culture announces 2015 the 28 edition of the Visual Arts National Biennal

Minister of Culture José Antonio Rodríguez presided over the work carried out by the Organizing Committee of the 28th edition of the National Biennal of Visual Arts.The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art and the Organizing Committee for the 28 edition of the Visual Arts National Biennal begin to work with the aim if set out the basis for giving the result related to the Foro Consultivo (Consultative Forum), which was carried out last year wit representatives in different areas related to the art.

 

Amongthe proposals of the Consulatative Forum consultivo “Repensar la Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales” it was examined the creation of a permanent commission of the Biennal that it would be in charge of organizing and monitoring the Biennal through an Executive Committee.

 

Also, they agreed the participation for all the Dominicans who wish to present their artistic projects both personally and collectively. The Ministry of Culture employees are forbidden to participate except they have resigned their positions in public.

 

It was established that each artists should participate with one work minimum or three ones maximum.

 

They agreed that in case the artist presents his museum and space design for his installation work which proposal affects the gravity of the physical structure of the building where the event is held, such proposal would be reject immediately.

 

Refering to the jury for the selections and awarding of prizes, they agreed that in the case of the presented projects, they will be subjected to a jury for selection and awarding of prizes chosen by the Organizing Committee made of artists, critics, curators and experts in visual arts with a brilliant professional carrier.

 

They announced that the awarding prizes will give in different categories and they established that The Great Prize should not be shared. Each artist will have the opportunity to receive only one individual prize. The jury will give Honor Mentions with no profit.

 

Among the more significant changes they planned that the Great Prize for the National Biennal was given to an artist with a outstanding professional carrier in this field, which work was basically of permanent nature with the aim of enriching the museum heritage.

 

Theses auggestions for changing the basis are some of the similarities in the consensus of the ConsultativeForum called “Repensar la Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales”, which was headed by the ministry of culture José Antonio Rodríguez accompanied by the director of the Gabinet of Culture Carlos Salcedo and the director of the Museum of Modern Art Maria Elena Ditren.

 

Likewise the independent artists Elsa Núñez, Tony Capellán, Luis Arias and Iris Pérez; from the Art Critics Association, Carlos Acero, Gamal Michelén and Carlos Francisco Elías; and the galleries owners Bingene Armenteros, Mildred Canahuate and Juan Julio Bodden.

 

Also they were present the executives of the Plastic Artists Dominican College Clinton López, Santos Checo, Vladimir Velázquez, Rosalba Hernández and Martín López; as well as Luis Pena Manzo from the Professional Photographers Association, and Marianne de Tolentino from the NationalGallery of Fine Arts.

 

Also, they were supported by the vice-minister of Institutional Development Carlos Santos Durán and legal consultan of the Ministry of Culture Filias Bencosme Pérez, and from the Musuem of Modern Art were present subdirector Hilario Olivo, chief curator Amable López Meléndez, legal manager Betzaida Ymaya, specialist in public relations the press Renania Reyna and specialist in international affairs Giordano Herrera.

 

The 28 edition of the Visual Arts Biennal will be carried out at the Musum of Modern Art on August 16.
