La primera colá exhibition at Fresa y Chocolate Cultural center

By: Diana Ferreiro

La primera colá is the title of the mega exhibition that recently opened at Fresa y Chocolate Cinema Cultural Center. Its opening included a kind of performance where some coffee was actually filtered in a traditional way to offer it to the audience, thanks to a work by Osneldo Gracia, 2003 National Plastic Arts Award.

Even though some of the pieces exhibited clearly state who they are and where these artists come from, some others represent less known periods of the artist, like the case of abstract visual artist Raul Martinez.

Curated by Teresa Gomez Acosta and Yeray Tolentino, La ùltima colà aimed at arranging an exhibition where there were no generational or aesthetic differences, and where no particular artist stood out above the rest. Starting from drawings, canvas, installations, sculptures, ceramics, photographs and serigraphies, the 22 artists, who have been granted the National Plastic Arts Awards, will have a joint space in this 12th Havana Biennial.

Those visiting Fresa y Chocolate Cultural Center until next June 22, will be able to see pieces by Martínez González, Rita María Longa Aróstegui, Agustín Cárdenas, Raúl Corrales Fornos, Alfredo Sosabravo, Julio Girona, Antonio Vidal, Ruperto Jay Matamoros, Manuel Mendive Hoyo, Adigio Benítez, Osneldo García, Roberto Fabelo, José Gómez Fresquet, Pedro Pablo Oliva, René de la Nuez, José Ramón Villa Soberón, Nelson Domínguez, René Francisco Hernández, Ernesto Fernández, Ever Fonseca, Eduardo Ponjuán and Lázaro Saavedra. They are all in an exhibition that transmits Cuban identity, history, culture and nationality through every piece of art.
