Audemars Piguet Has A Winner

Juan Luis Moraza (Vitoria, 1960), the artist proposed by Espacio Minimo gallery, has turned out to be the winner of the Audermars Piguet Prize to the creation of an artwork, to be showcased at the VIP Hall of ARCOmadrid 2013, Audemars Piguet space, within the framework of the Fair, February 13 - 17.

After lengthy deliberations, the Jury decided to give the Prize to the Basque’s project, named Arules, due to the effectiveness of the piece when it comes to fulfilling the idea of this first call of the contest, based on the brand’s philosophy: “To break the rules, you must first master them”. Likewise, the Jury has taken into account the conceptual precision of the artist’s work, the quality of formal resolution and the way it reaches out viewers, with its sophistication and subtlety. The artist is going to be given 15,000 euros to produce the piece.

Juan Luis Moraza is a sculptor. Among his recent solo shows, we should highlight Software (Moises Perez Albeniz, Pamplona, 2010); IMPLEJIDADES (Montehermoso, Vitoria, 2009) and Repercusiones (Trayecto, 2007). Some of his works are part of collections at Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao), Reina Sofia Museum (Madrid), MACBA (Barcelona), ARTIUM (Vitoria), among others. He has been the curator of exhibitions such as El retorno de lo imaginario, REALISMOS ENTRE XIX y XXI (Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid, 2010), or Incognitas: cartografias del arte contemporaneo en Euskadi (Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, 2007).
