22nd Biennial Sesc_Videobrasil: Awards

The 22nd Biennial Sesc_Videobrasil proudly announces the winners of this edition's awards. The jury - composed by Adrienne Edwards (US), Gabriela Golder (Argentina), Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons (Cuba), Patrick Flores (Filipinas) and Vivian Ostrovsky (Brazil / US) - has selected eight outstanding works and their artists to be honored. 

THE SESC ART PRIZES

Two prizes, awarded exclusively to Brazilian artists, disburse up to R$50,000 apiece on the acquisition of works for the Sesc Brazilian Art Collection.

Froiid (Brazil) O pulo do gato, 2023 and Leila Danziger (Brazil) O que desaparece, o que resiste, 2023 

WEXNER CENTER FOR THE ARTS FILM/VIDEO RESIDENCY PRIZE

Offers a residency at Wexner Center of Arts (Ohio, USA), USD10,000 in funding and access to postproduction facilities and equipment for the completion of an audiovisual work. 

Vitória Cribb (Brazil) Bugs, 2022 

CENTRO CULTURAL DO CARIRI RESIDENCY PRIZE 

Offers a two-month residency at Centro Cultural do Cariri Sérvulo Esmeraldo (Ceará, Brazil) to a Latin-American artist. The residency program cultivates interchange between artistic outputs, recognizing Cariri as a creative force in dialogue with other territorial identities and bodies of knowledge.

Janaina Wagner (Brazil) Quebrante, 2023 

INSTITUTO SACATAR RESIDENCY PRIZE

Offers a two-month residency at Instituto Sacatar, tailored to artists based in Brazil. The institute encourages its resident artists to engage with and draw inspiration from this melting pot of Indigenous, African, and European histories, with their rich and plural cross-pollination. 

Maksaens Denis (Haiti) My dreams, 2021 

O.F.F. PRIZE

R$ 35,000 cash prize to a young artist offered by the American Ostrovsky Family Fund, which fosters independent artistic initiatives in numerous countries.

Bo Wang (China) The revolution will not be air-conditioned, 2022 

JURY PRIZE

Nolan Oswald Dennis (Zambia) A recurse for three oceans, 2023
