PINTA Miami CROSSING CULTURES Launches new programs for Miami Art Week 2017

Miami, Florida. PINTA MIAMI – CROSSING CULTURES returns to Miami Art Week with new programs and initiatives for its 11th edition. These new programs look to further PINTA’s mission and encompass galleries from around the globe while maintaining a conceptual dialogue across all countries, cultures and genres. This year, the fair returns to Mana Wynwood, from December 6 through the 10, 2017.

During its 2016’s edition and thanks to its impressive programming, PINTA Miami reached record attendance of over 30,000 visitors. Its curatorial committee expanded its project to include galleries from around the globe, thereby destroying barriers and permeating through all corners of the globe. Our curated sections featured not only works by a range of legendary artists, but also recreations of historical performances. The fantastic selection of participating galleries built new relationships with international collectors and directors of art institutions, which in turn enabled significant sales.

For 2017, PINTA MIAMI – CROSSING CULTURES, the customary “solo project” turns into a “Solo-Duo” project. Errant Geographies is the result of the collaboration world-renowned curators Dan Cameron and Jesus Fuenmayor. The premise of the exhibit proposes an exchange between Latino and Latin American artists. It seeks to confront the truths and fictions that exist in the widespread use of these geopolitical categories. The works presented will showcase their different ways of dealing with their context and cultural backgrounds regardless of their place of residence, generational belonging, gender or nationality.

New to this edition of the fair will be PINTA PLATFORMS. Curated by Roc Laseca, this innovative section will be devoted to providing additional visibility to modern and contemporary art contributions. Pinta Platforms will serve as a distinctive stage for galleries to showcase their represented artists in a unique way.

Another new feature of PINTA MIAMI 2017 will be the PINTA COUNTRY SECTIONS. These sections were created with intention of becoming a stage for works that are representative of their countries of origin. This year, the fair will feature Argentina and Perú. As the other sections of the fair, these segments will be curated. In the case of Argentina, the fair welcomes Florencia Battiti.  Max Hernandez Calvo will be in charge of Peru. Each section will feature selected galleries and artists from each one of these countries and serve as a gauge of the country’s artistic scene.

"PINTA MIAMI 2017 will be more international and interdisciplinary. In our second year of ‘crossing cultures’, we look to continue featuring the best of modern and contemporary art within the contexts established by our curatorial team,” explained Diego Costa Peuser, the founder and director of PINTA Miami. "As we continue to grow and expand our reach; PINTA MIAMI becomes a landmark in the artistic scene not only during Miami Art Week, but throughout the year.”

Returning for a second year to PINTA MIAMI – CROSSING CULTURES will be the Young Collectors Desk. The main objective of this initiative is to provide assistants – already avid collectors and enthusiasts of art – with the necessary tools to help maximize their experiences at the fair by educating and giving attendees the opportunity to explore the world of the arts with guided tours that focus on the basics of collecting art.

Returning this year, PINTA Auditorium will focus on current matters surrounding Latin American contemporary art with noted speakers. Conversations will be Thursday 7th thru Saturday 8th at 4pm in our LATAM VIP Lounge.

The eleventh edition of PINTA Miami wouldn’t be possible without the support of our main sponsor EFG Bank, Wealth Management; and kind sponsors which includes LATAM Airlines, Mercantil Bank, artprice.com, JW Marriott Miami, Museo Vault, PromPerú and The Related Group. As well as our Media Partners: Arte al Día International, The Miami Herald and our online partner artnexus.com.

PINTA Miami is directed by Diego Costa Peuser, CEO and Editor in Chief of Arte al Dia Internacional magazine. He is also the founder and director of PARC – Peru Arte Contemporaneo, BAphoto (Buenos Aires Photo), and the Buenos Aires and Punta del Este editions of Gallery Nights.  The fair will be open from 12 pm to 8 pm from December 6 - 10 at Mana Wynwood. About PINTA Miami

Launched in New York in 2006, the fair is considered the most important event of its kind. The founding of PINTA Miami was a milestone event in awareness of twentieth-century Hispanic-American art. It has increased the visibility in the United States of crucial figures like Julio Le Parc, José Gurvich, Jorge Eielson, Lydia Okumura, Antonio Manuel, Waltercio Caldas, Ivan Contreras Brunet, Carlos Cruz Diez, and Spanish artist Elena Asins. Emerging contemporary artists like Elias Crespin, Ivan Navarro, Alexandre Arrechea, Dario Escobar, Matias Duville, Alejandro Londono, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, José Luis Landet, Ricardo Alcaide, Emilio Chapela, and many others have also participated in the fair. Through innovative management strategies, PINTA has been instrumental to major museums’ acquiring works by Latin American artists. A few examples of such acquisitions include a piece by Abraham Palatnik purchased by MoMA for its permanent collection; a work by Elias Crespín purchased by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and a work by Fernando Bryce purchased by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).
