In Seville much more than cinema

The 16th edition of the European Film Festival of Seville proposes for this 2019 a diverse program of activities in which more than 30 events dedicated to cinema coexist with activities in which literature, animation, dance, comic and photography meet with the seventh art.

The tournament will be starred, to be held from November 8 to 16, by figures such as Pere Portabella, Montxo Armendáriz, Lene Berg, Lorenzo Mattotti and Albert Serra in which a seminar with great filmmakers, meetings in bookstores with the most recognized European authors is planned, an appointment to discover the relationship between copla and feminism, a route through Sevillian underground culture from a film project and many other initiatives.

In the collateral program, the inauguration, prior to the start of the event, of the photographic exhibition Los cineastas, Europa retratada in the Antiquarium, stands out. Óscar Fernández Orengo portrays 50 Spanish and European filmmakers, consecrated and young talents, such as Víctor Erice, Mia Hansen-Løve, Béla Tarr, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Agnès Varda and Pedro Costa, among many others. In the sample, a selection of 25, correspond to Spanish filmmakers in black and white and in panoramic format, portrayed in spaces and places that they themselves have chosen. The other 25 portraits correspond to filmmakers from other European countries, photographed in black and white, in color and in different formats with special predominance of the square.

Part of Fernández Orengo's great photographic production on film has already been shown through several traveling exhibitions both in Spain and in many countries. The photographer, who believes in black and white because "it gives versatility in any light condition as opposed to color, which is more plastic", also has as classic references of photography authors who have worked essentially in black and white like Eugène Atget, Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, David Goldblatt or Cartier-Bresson.

It also stands out in the program of the European Film Festival of Seville the space 'Read before seeing' that will again be the one that involves the bookstores of the city, and great expectation has also created collaborations with the festival from academic institutions such as the faculties of Communication and Education Sciences, the Pablo de Olavide University and the Menéndez Pelayo International University.
