Litoral Exhibition Opens at the El Templete Restaurant

By: Susana Méndez Muñoz

The Litoral Exhibition by Cuban plastic artist and writer Ileana Mulet was opened this weekend at the El Templete restaurant, in Old Havana.

This exhibition, which is commissioned by art critic Maylin de Jesús Pérez Parrado, is composed by 13 oil paintings showing different images of the Havana coasts. Each picture is accompanied by a poem that this multifaceted creator has dedicated to our National Hero Jose Marti.

Ileana provides the viewers with her Havana coasts, those kinds she has created like serene or fierce, clear or dark, cold or warm, near or far, and her idea of constant interchange with the nature and the planet like that feeling of giving and receiving the see always transmit.

Along with the Havana coasts there are walls, bridges, streetlight, parks and balconies from the Old Havana, which show the marks of time and people lives that you can also see in the oil paintings.

Thanks to the Litoral exhibition, artist Ileana Mulet is now part of the Cocinarte project, which is organized by El Templete restaurant since 2006, and with a group of Cuban plastic artists whose works are extoling the walls of such restaurant. The name of the restaurant is given because of the nearby homonymous monument placed in 1828 to pay tribute to the Havana’s San Cristóbal village founded in 1519.

Since its opening, El Templete restaurant revives the sea culinary tradition providing the clients with succulent dishes based on fishes and seafood the visitors can enjoy as well as cultural proposals related to works by outstanding plastic artists like Ileana Mulet with her exhibition Litoral, which will be exhibited at this restaurant until February.
