Malakhov Award: building bridges

After the intense days elapsed in the second edition of North Atlantic and Grand Prix Vladimir Malakhov Dance Contest, we left the joy of the shared days. The city of Holguin becomes again a center of confrontation over creation and pedagogy dance. Screening as competition, the event is organized around Codanza anniversary, a company under the direction of Maricel Godoy, who hosts the event.

I think that, considering the high degree of technical training of Cuban dancers, of those excellencies carried and brought in their performances, the balance that this kind of encounter leaves -not very common in our scenic panorama- will always returns the confidence of better mornings. Let us not fool ourselves, the choreographic practice requires a huge leap.

Workshops, master classes, conferences, thematic forums, trials, hearings, exhibitions, films, etc. They were presented as parallel agenda to the night contest. The main hall of Eddy Sunol theater hosted over thirty proposals of companies of almost all the island and neighboring countries.

It was also helpful to have the Cuban and foreign teachers who generously shared their knowledge with young artists and students. In that sense, the act of Silvina Fabars, prima ballerina of the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba and National Dance Prize remains distinguishable. She does not give up being a gentle giver of her extensive accumulated experience. Having had the good fortune to enjoy the pedagogy and creation of Guillermo Horta live, a Cuban who lives in Austria and who was one of the leaders of the new searches of the performing arts in the second half of the eighties of the last century.

It would be very notable that in the future Holguin still remains, with its competition, a convoking square to the best achievements and challenges of the Cuban dance, dance without geographical, generational, poetic or discursive distinctions.

Thanks to Maricel, Vladimir, Paul and everyone from Holguin who cling to build bridges.
