2011 Photography Contests

January 31 sets the deadline for photography awards recommended by Cubafoto Cultural Project and the Photographic Library of Cuba: 15th Hall of Erotic Art in Havana; 17th International Graphic Humor Biennial, and Photography and Vernacular Architecture Literature.

 

15th Hall of Erotic Art in Havana. (Called by “Fayad Jamís” Gallery and Art and Literature Center for artists interested in participating).

 

The event’s theme is free, within the eroticism genre. Every artist will take part with one or two works (Painting, Drawing, Engraving, Digital Art, Sculpture, Installation, Performance and audiovisual).

Two-dimensional works won’t exceed 120 cm, and three-dimensional ones won’t take more than 150 cm height. Works made on paper or card will be assembled for delivery, accompanied by technical specifications with artist’s name, I.D number, address and telephone, as well title, techniques and genre to be included. A jury made up by outstanding artists and experts will award a First, Second and Third Prize, as well as mentions determined by the jury.

 

The Hall’s inauguration and award-giving ceremony will be held on February 19, 2011, 6 pm at “Fayad Jamís” Art and Literature Center, 5th B and 164th Ave (Los Cocos), Zone 7, Alamar, Havana, Cuba. Telephone: (53-7)765-3253)

 

17th International Graphic Humor Biennial (Called by Cuba Journalists Union’s   Circle of Humorists and Comic Writers and the Museum of Humor from San Antonio de los Baños for professionals of graphic humor worldwide)

 

General humor, political satire, humorous comic story, personal caricature and humorous photography are the categories taking part in the 17th International Graphic Humor Biennial, Cuba 2011, to be held March 27-29, co-sponsored by the Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP) and the Provincial Office of Culture.

 

Original or digitally processed works will be accepted (printed and carrying the author’s signature), which may be worked by using any technique and top format is 30 x 40 cm, for any of the previously stated categories. This will be the first time to award the on line prize “Tomy” (paying tribute to the recently gone caricaturist Tomas Rodriguez Zayas), to the finest work expressing the meaning of the economic, financing and trade blockade imposed by the Unites States against Cuba. Works to take part for this award shall be sent to: humor@upec.co.cu.

 

Each author can send one work per category, plus another for “Tomy” award. The following data must be sent along with every work: name and surname (as well as artistic name), country, category and award to take part in, particular address, email.

 

A selection of presented works, according to the decision of an expert admission jury, will be showcased at the 17th International Hall of Graphic Humor in San Antonio de los Baños. Humor meetings, exhibitions, artistic creation and theoretical workshops will be held in San Antonio de los Baños and Havana, so participants are able to exchange experiences, shed light on their works and reflect on the role of humor in the 21st century.

Photography and Literature Contests (Organized by “Gonzalo de Cardenas” Professorship of the Historian’s Office, Havana)

Works will be received up to January 31, for Contests of Photography, Literature and Communication, as part of the 8th Technical Workshop of Vernacular Architecture, to be carried out in Havana, March 21-24, 2011, dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Baracoa’s foundation.

 

With texts and illustrations, the contesters will deal with an aspect of Cuban vernacular architecture and its materials: stone, masonry, wood, mud, glass and metals. Works must be sent to: General Office of Architecture and Urbanism, Cuba 316th street, Old Havana’s Historic Core, Cuba.
