Avant-Garde Art: PIC 2011

San Cristobal de Las Casas: The Cerillo Gallery and Studio is calling on all artists to present a free-theme project, either individually or collectively, in the form of site specific, performance, installation or conceptual art with a view to encourage Chiapas’ cultural atmosphere.

The selection will be run by the institution which will give top priority to those expressions of innovative and avant-garde art, as well as projects that challenge the way of being of the creative process. Winners will receive financial support to exhibit their works at the gallery in San Cristobal de las Casas, thanks in part to a subvention by CONACULTA (Chiapas), recently granted to the institution: http://www.conecultachiapas.gob.mx

The gallery will mount seven exhibitions beginning in March through December 2011, each of them stretching out for approximately five weeks. Selected artists will cover their own expenses in terms of transportation, accommodation and meals, as well as the supply of all necessary materials for their expositions.

The selection implies the artist’s addition to a project entitled The Ever-Shrinking Art-Capsule Gallery Project, a nonstop installation that will capsulate artworks in the walls of the gallery, layer upon layer, to gradually create a physical memoir.

The artworks submitted must also contain a résumé, exhibition summary, photos, videos, comments on the works and all the necessary supporting material that will help the assessment of all projects. For more information, visit www.studiocerrillo.com
