Latin America and other projects (Sicart Gallery)

Barcelona: Five main axes define the work of Sicart Gallery in 2011: fair attendance, promotion of Latin American art, residence-workshops, collaboration with other galleries and publication of monographic catalogues.

FAIRS

Representing its vocation for European, Latin American and American fairs, Sicart Gallery kicked off this year with a double performance in February in Madrid. JustMad2 showcased the installation-project made by artists Cristina Calderon (Barcelona, 1972) and José Luis Paulete (Madrid, 1964): the reconstruction of one of the rooms in Somos aquí, 2010, model-format work which recreates the scaled houses of these artists. “PERSPECTIVAS LATINOAMERICANAS” (LATIN AMERICAN PERSPECTIVES) EXHIBITION CYCLE

In recent years, Sicart Gallery has boosted an important relationship with the Latin American region for the gallery has it as preference area upon promoting and spreading the word on European contemporary artists.

Perspectivas Latinoamericanascycle was created with the idea of strengthening links with young artists considered relevant by experts working for the gallery. They also account on the collaboration of 713 Gallery, Buenos Aires, and Patricia Ready Gallery, Santiago de Chile.

The cycle, started in last November with works of Paula Toto Blake (La Plata, Argentina, 1972) and Sofia Lopez Mañan, (Buenos Aires, 1982), will continue in March-April with Patricio Gil-Flood (La Plata, Argentina, 1977), Paulina Silva (Santiago de Chile, 1980) and Estanislao Florido. The opening ceremony is set for March 5.

April-June will receive Cecilia Avendaño (Santiago de Chile, 1980) with Margarita Dittborn (Santiago de Chile, 1981), and Alejandra Alarcon (Cochabamba, Bolivia, 1976).[1]  (April-June 2011).

GALLERY-WORKSHOP-RESIDENCE PROJECT

Residence-Gallery project, as explained by Sicart Gallery’s experts in the press release, tries to break up the static conception of expositive spaces, and turn the gallery into residence-workshop for some exhibitions.

“The challenge entails the creation of works to make up the open-door exhibition with the total support of the gallery. With this initiative, we want to get journalists, curators, collectors and the general audience in touch with artists’ workshops while creating participative dynamics through the direct contact with artists. As the residence-workshop goes on, debates and conferences will be organized with artists on their works and art creation.” Patricio Gil-Flood and Paulina Silva are invited to the first of these residence-workshops. The next one (April-June) will count on Alejandra Alarcon.

COLLABORATION WITH OTHER GALLERIES

Regarding to the collaboration, it’s been told that the current A l’abast de la mà exhibition, by artists Mar Arza, Marta Espinach and Anna Talens, is possible thanks to the collaboration with Cànem Gallery from Castelló de la Plana, PazyComedias Gallery from Valencia and Sicart Gallery from Vilafranca del Penedès and it can be admired in March -April at PazyComedias, and September-October, at Cánem.

During March-April period, the works of artists Cristina Calderon & Jose Luis Paulete will be exhibited at 713 Gallery, Buenos Aires (Argentina), and in April-May, Gisela Ràfols and Fernando Navarro Vejo’s works will be showcased at Patricia Ready Gallery from Santiago de Chile.

Of course, these five axes are linked and complemented into each other, as it’s the case of monographic catalogues publication. Sicart Gallery is looking forward to publish two of them this year.
