May 2 is the deadline for applications to participate in (e)merge art fair, aimed at promoting artists who have never individually exhibited their work.

 

Organized by Helen Allen, founder and former director of Pulse Contemporary Art Fair, and Leigh Conner and Jamie Smith, co-founders of Conner Contemporary Art gallery, in Washington, D.C., this first edition of (e)merge (September 22-25) will be carried out at Capitol Skyline Hotel in Washington, D.C., where artist’s works will be exposed in parking, corridors, hall and other spaces in the building.

 

The applications (by galleries or artists) will be taken into consideration by a committee of internationally recognized experts: Matthew Higgs, chief of White Columns in Nueva York; Kristen Hileman, contemporary art commissioner at Baltimore Museum of Art; Mera Rubell and Manuel de Santaren, North American art collectors; artist Nico Vascellari (Italy, 1976) and Yvonne Force Villareal, co-founder of Art Production Fund, non-lucrative organization which collaborates in the production on art projects.

Es Baluard Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma Foundation and Palma Espai d'Art Foundation collaborate in the presentation of Contemporary Art and Collecting International Award (PIACC).

 

This annual award –an initiative of Juan Bonet, Jose Maria Lafuente, Mario Legorburu and Alejandro Villalba, private collectors from Islas Baleares– tries to boost contemporary art collecting, and the recognition of works made by artists under 45 years old who were born, have exhibited their work or worked on Islas Baleares. The award, accompanied by 20 000 euro, will be equally defrayed by the four collectors and Es Baluard will included the work in its permanent collection.

Premium’s users, registered in Blipoint, will be able to participate in the Visual Creativity contest to be carried out in three stages: image on line publication of up to two posters (March 16 – June 6); voting (June 6-20), and winning posters selection, by an expert’s jury.

 

The technique to be used on posters designing is free; artists can bring in pictures, collage, silk screen printing, painting, illustrations or mixed techniques. Unpublished digital posters cannot exceed 1.5 megabytes, jpg format.

 

The voting process, with the star votes system, will handpick the top 100 quality posters. A jury will decide the winning posters out of those preselected. Along with the cash for the first prize and other gifts, up to the fourth position, an exhibition will be held at Maxó Gallery, Barcelona, July 21-28 2011, with the 15 posters that reached the final.

 

Santiago Pol, graphic artist who is internationally recognized as designer (http://gallery.blipoint.com/santiagopol/), and Jose Antonio Andres Freis, professional photographer, president of Cataluña Photographers Association, (http://gallery.blipoint.com/jaandresferriz), will carry out the selection and guardianship of posters and pictures participating in Visual Creativity.

Marcelino Botín Foundation calls a new edition of Fine Arts Scholarships for training, researching and materializing individual projects in the world of art creation (not theoretical works), aimed at artists from all over the world.

 

It’s all about direct help, incompatible with any other institutional help, for 9 months. Out of the origin spot, this help can be extended for other period of time, after the annual application according to the public announcement timetable.

 

The aid package is 16 000 euro, no residence changes; with transfer to any other country, different from your present residence is 24,000 euros and with transfer to the United States: 28 000 euro, these amounts of money include travelling, accommodation, maintenance, studio rental, etc. Indispensable conditions to apply for the scholarship: 23 - 40 years old, for training scholarships and there’s no age limit for those related to research.

 

The deadline for applications is May 6, 2011, 1400 hours, at Botín Foundation. Applications received one week after the deadline will be accepted if the postmark corresponds to May 6, 2011 or an earlier date. The decision will be put on the map on July 15, 2011.

Itaú Foundation from Chile wants, through Lente Latino contest, to create a wide photographic register of Latin American countries, encourage and promote the creations of people who use photography as expression mean. Its intention is summarized in the phrase: “Toma el pulso a tu país (Take the pulse of your country)”.

 

All artists and photographers can participate, over 21 years of age, born or living (two years of legal residence minimum) in a Latin American country.

 

Organized by Consuelo Cheyre and Paula Guzman, its jury is made up of Laura Gonzalez (Mexico), Iatã Cannabrava (Brazil) and Camilo Yañez (Chile), general commissioner. The contest, which counts on the curatorial assistance of Montserrat Rojas, will put the material together in an exhibition (and the possible publication of a book).
