Paris: World Images

Dedicated to “discovering” artists with unpublished works in Europe, PHOTOQUAI continues to encourage exchanges and cross references on the world. The third edition of this non-Western photographic biennial will be underway in the piers of Seine and the Musée du Quai Branly from Sept. 13 thru Dec. 11, 2011.

The artistic direction of the Third PHOTOQUAI Biennial is in the hands of photographer and artist Françoise Huguier, who was in charge of coordinating a committee that gathered imaging experts and those responsible of ferreting out the emerging talents on the spot.

This edition will present nearly 400 artworks by 46 contemporary photographers from 29 countries: South Africa, Congo, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Togo, Morocco, Tunisia, Bahrain, Iraq, Belarus, Russia, China, Korea, India, Japan, Taiwan, Cuba, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Colombia and Brazil.

Other Paris-based institutions are equally involved in this project, such as Galerie Baudouin Lebon, Galerie In Camera, Galerie Paris-Beijing, the Latin America House, the Eueopean Photography House, Petit Palais, Polka Galerie and Eiffel Tower. The Musée du Quai Branly, for its part, is giving the public the chance of engaging in photography meetings with experts and guests curators for debate and presentation sessions.

In addition, the awardees of the Support Program for Photographic Artistic Creation will be presented as a initiative suggested by the museum with the support of the Total Foundation.
