Third Parana International Photography Festival

This meeting came into being back in 2007 by the hand of photographer Eduardo Segura, academic director of “Una Foto Escuela” and “Fototeca de Entre Rios.” He’s also the representative of the Hispanic American Photography Fund.

At the onset, the event was known as the International Photography Colloquium and its opening edition featured such Cuban authors as Rufino Del Valle, Ramon Cabrales and Felix Arencibia, who exposed their works and chatted with the community. Based on this initial success, organizers decided to hold the gathering every other year under the title of Parana International Photography Festival.

During its second edition in 2009, exhibitors from different parts of the world attended, such as Mexico, Cuba, Spain, Brazil, Dominican Republic, UK, Germany, Greece, Canary Islands, Uruguay and Argentina. These participants showcased their pieces in cultural centers around the city and even made presentations in unconventional places, like restaurants and bookstores.

The upcoming third edition is slated for Sept. 17-25, 2011 with a turnout of photographers from eight Hispanic American nations. Among the boldface names that have already signed up, Francisco Mata Rosas and Fernando Montiel Klint (Mexico), Cuba’s Nadal Antelmo Vizcaino, Brazil’s Guy Veloso, Jorge Luis Santos and Aaron Sosa (Venezuela); Evelyn Espaillat (Dominican Republic); Jose Ortega Sitoh (Spain) and Argentina’s Sandra Siviero and Yaki Yasklovski. Photographers will make use of conventional spaces, like the “Pedro E. Martinez” Provincial Museum of Fine Arts, the Martiniano Provincial Museum of History, the “Prof. Antonio Serrano” Museum of Anthropology and Natural Sciences, the “Santo Dominguez y Benguria” Museum of Siege, the “Juan L. Ortiz” Cultural Center, the “Hendija” Cultural Center, UADER and “Una Foto Escuela.” At the same time, heed will be paid to alternative locations since one of the festival’s objectives is to bring the art to people who seldom attend this kind of function.

As part of the festival’s schedule, there will be debates, chats and classes in outdoor locations and other venues.
