Erotic Adventures of Tintin at Kreisler Gallery

Kreisler Gallery, Madrid, will be exhibiting TNT, Adventures in Japan, by Cantabella (Murcia, 1977) through November 5.

A sort of tribute to the universe of comic and illustration is paid through the artworks, fantasizing from the popular character created by Georges Remi (Herge), Tintin, and his new “adventures”, now in the Eastern. Though it’s not the first time that the character plays the leading role on that kind of episodes, let’s just remember El Loto Azul, album published between December 1932 and February 1934, which follows the purpose of digging up absurd Western clichés on China, among others. However, this case is totally different; the playful eroticism of images subverts the traditional vision on the intrepid reporter. Cantabella is interested in parodying symbolic constructions visually “imposed” to several generations, which draws an easy-to-destroy reality; so Tintin is shown as a fearless adult. The protagonist’s “innocence” twists into these delicate scenes.

Cantabella is a painter and sculptor. He’s been dealing for years with the conflict between the private and the public through a series of images that express the symbol of a culture that includes us all and we’re all identified with it. He has carried out about 20 personal exhibitions in Mexico and Spain and has received several recognitions such as the First Prize at Juan J. Oliveira 1st Sculpture Contest, Pontevedra, in 2007 and Honorable Mention at Murcia Young Visual Arts Contest (Murcia, 2004).
