Havana Biennial: Guests and Projects

The Organizing Committee of Havana Biennial recently unveiled the list of participants to the eleventh edition of the event.

Practicas Artisticas e Imaginarios sociales is the core and there are going to be exhibitions and projects held in several spaces of the city. A group of guest artists, almost 40, will be focused on two of the most significant sites of the central exhibition: the Grand Theater of Havana and Cuba Pavilion; Mexicans Rafael Lozano-Hemmer and Damian Ortega, Jean-Francois Bocle(Martinique) and Mona Marzouk (Egypt); and at Maksaens DenisPavilion(Haiti), Arcangel Constantini(Mexico), Brazilian Lia Chaiaand Cuban American Tony Labatt, among others.

The Latin American Cultural Center will be hosting a project that explores the ties between art and the new media, Open Score; La caza del exito will be dealing with today’s Cuban design and architecture from the Center for Visual Arts Development; the Art Superior Institute is going to hold open workshops, exhibitions and presentations; Detras del muro, commissioned by Juan Delgado, is going to be carried out at Havana’s seawall; while a sui generis communitarian project will be implemented in San Agustin. The National Museum of Fine Arts will be hosting the Theoretical Event and an important exhibition of Ela Cisneros Collection.

This Biennial will count on many projects to be held in public spaces, in a search for more interaction between the spectator and contemporary visual arts: Guatemalan team Caja Ludica proposes and intervention at Villalon Park in Vedado, while the performance by Joëlle Ferly (Guadalupe) is going to be displayed at the Park located in 23 between C and D. South African Steven Cohen will be showcasing three public presentations at Trianon Theater, just like Enmanuel Sevigny (Canada), with his projection in the urban space, next to Casa del ALBA. Brazilian Marlon de Azambuja will have an intervention at the 21 and H park, and Cuban duet Los carpinteros will be exhibiting their artworks at Prado.

We will keep you posted from A x E News with new tips on the program and location of artists.
