EL SUSURRO DE LO EFIMERO at ARANAPOVEDA

Rebeca Menendez’s first solo show is going to be inaugurated on June 5 at ARANAPOVEDA Galeria, to be open through July 25, within the framework of PhotoEspaña2012.

El susurro de lo efímero(The Whisper of the Fleeting) underscores the presence of the extraordinary in the artist’s photographic work, due to the “peculiarity” of events in conventional spaces. Just as she said, in an effort “to yield the reality to the story, the strength of possibility and the evidence of impossibility are plaited and strained in an inseparable way.”

In a text on the pieces included in the showcase, writer and journalist Juan Carlos Gea refers to the strategies of digital image manipulation used by Menendez to create a plausible space, in a process in which she adds, “literally and figuratively, time to the scene: that infinite and insurmountable time that separates the spectator from what happens beyond the events horizon, in terms of physic or art.”

Rebeca Menendez (Aviles, 1976) has recently carried out exhibitions at Espacio Liquido (Gijon), Vilaseco-Hauser (A Coruña) and Paola Verrengia (Salerno, Italy). She has participated in international fairs such as ARCO (2011, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2006), PULSE (NY), CIRCA (Puerto Rico), ARTBO (Bogota), among others. Her works are showcased in numerous public and private collections.
