Catalonia & Balearic Islands at Venice Biennial

Ramon Llull Institut, created to project Catalonian language and culture overseas, has called for a contest that will award a prize to a curatorial project that represents Catalonia and the Balearic Islands in the collateral events of the 55th Venice Biennial.

People interested in participating in the contest shall present the documentation in two sealed envelopes, as well as a memory-report reflecting general ideas of the proposal according to the conceptual framework and budget (up to 300,000 euros). The proposals must be put on the table in paper format and PDF format (CD or DVD). The deadline for applications to the Participation phase is June 22, 2012, 12:00 hours.

After the engagement, the prizewinner must re-elaborate and clearly define the project, pointing out the final development of the memory-report, artists participating, as well as budget and production details.

This is the third time the pavilion of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands participates in the Venice Biennial, and in order to consolidate this presence the Institute bets on a first level project, backed up by an internationally acclaimed career. The prizewinning proposal must, first of all, reflect Catalonian and Balearic contemporary creation, by holding a fecund dialogue with the main trends on the international stage.

The jury is going to be made up of Bartomeu Mari, director of MACBA (Barcelona); Glòria Picazo, director of La Panera Art Center; Gerard Vilar, professor of Aesthetics at UAB; Xavier Antich, president of Antonio Tàpies Council Foundation; Marta Gili, director of Jeu de Paume; Piedad Solans, historian and art critic; and Àlex Susanna, assistant director at Ramon Llull Institut.
