Arte Laguna: 2013 Prizes

The seventh edition of Arte Laguna International Prize has been called, once again, by MoCA (Modern Contemporary Art)Cultural Association and Arte Laguna. One hundred and seventy thousand euros were gathered to award a prize to the finest artworks and projects, in order to promote contemporary art.

The Prize is divided into five areas: painting, sculpture and installation, photography, video-art and performance, and virtual art. All artists are allowed to participate; there is no age limit, sex, nationality or any other qualification. Artists can present one or more artworks, in one or more section.

Igor Zanti, art critic, is the curator for the Prize, and his work complements the one carried by the selection jury, which is made up of Umberto Angelini (Italy, Director of Uovo Festival), Gabriella Belli (Italy, Director of Musei Civici de Venecia), Cecilia Freschini (China, Founder of Lab-Yit), Mario Gerosa (Italy, Editor in Chief of AD, Curator of Digital Art), Kanchi Mehta (India, Founder and Chief Curator of Chameleon Art Projects & India Editor for Flash Art), Felix Schöber (Germany, independent curator), Claudia Zanfi (Italy, Art Historian and Cultural Manager), Adam Budak (United States, Curator of Contemporary Art at Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington) and Sabine Schaschl (Switzerland, Director and Curator Kunsthaus Baselland of Basel).

Besides the prizes per category (seven thousand euros each), artists will be delivered other recognitions such as the Special Prize Business For Art “FOPE Gioielli”, dedicated to artistic projects with the wining artist of “virtual art” section; prizes “Artist in Residence”, to be effective in several art institutions all over the world (Mumbai, Chicago, Venice, Slovenia, Basil); and special prizes due to the participation in different galleries in Venice and other Italian cities during that month.

The general registration fee is 50 euros for one work and 90 euros for two works in the same section. All artists can directly enter through October 23, 2012, and November 8 is the deadline for mail and online registration.

The Prize Awarding Jury is going to handpick 200 artworks. Chosen artist will be asked to send an email with a folder containing 10 works (top) and a full dossier to select the 110 finalist works to make up the collective exhibition, at the Arsenale di Venezia. The decisions taken by the Jury are unappealable and indisputable.

Arte Laguna Prize received a medal awarded by the President of the Italian Republic and is sponsored, among others, by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regione Veneto, Venice Municipality, Ca' Foscari University of Venice and the Istituto Europeo di Design IED.
