MADRIDFOTO Renewed

A vital change for the organization and results of the upcoming edition of MADRIDFOTO was announced some weeks ago: Anne Morin will be replacing Giulietta Speranza in the artistic direction of the event, which is undoubtedly going to bring substantial changes in the conception and implementation of projects.

This is the fifth time that MADRIDFOTO, Photography International Fair, takes spaces in that city in June. Speranza had taken office since 2009, but she quit it when she was appointed curator of the Cibeles Center of Culture and Citizenship.

The recent boom of art fairs targeting photography and multiple originals, in Europe and Latin America, turns out to be significant. These expressions, which have been kind of pushed out of the main market circuits because they entail the existence of more than one copy of each piece; represent an opportunity, however, for a new collecting, more modest and in tune with the ups and downs caused by the world economic crisis. The great collections and foundations, museums, will always take fairs as excellent spaces to acquire outstanding pieces created by first-level contemporary artists, large-scale installations, painting, sculpture. But photography and engraving turn out to be a good business for young collectors or art enthusiasts that want to admire these artworks within their habitual environment.

In 2013 MADRIDFOTO proposes the establishment of collaborations with other cultural platforms, the participation of key entities in the world of photography, and visibility for other peripheral means such as publishing houses, photography awards, photographic agencies …

Anne Morin got her degree in Fine Arts at the L'Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier and a Higher Diploma on Photography given by the L´Ecole Nationale de Photographie, in Arles. She has collaborated with important photographic events such as Les Rencontres de la Photographie, Arles (1998-2000) or PHotoEspaña (2001-2004). Since 2004, she has been working as the director of diChroma photography, a company specialized in the production and itinerancy of international photographic exhibitions and the development of cultural projects.
