Galleria illy Opens in Beijing

Galleria illy Peking will be, through December 2, a space to shed light on prestigious figures of art, design and enogastronomy: from Sebastião Salgado to Ron Arad, from Liu Wei to Lin Tianmiao, from Pino Cuttaia to Josean Alija.

After New York, Milan, Trieste, Istanbul, Berlin and London, this gallery opens its doors in Peking, at Parkview Green FangCaoDi. Just as it generally happens in the project, the space will be offering viewers the opportunity to blend the worlds joined by illy: art, culture, design and gastronomy. The Italian company´s main objective is to promote the culture of coffee in a pretty-traditional country, where this drink is more popular among young people. “Within one generation time, China can become one of the top five coffee consumers worldwide” Andrea Illy said, President and CEO of illycaffè S.p.A.

Sebastião Salgadowas the first guest to attend the opening days, and presented his photographic report on coffee plantations in China, produced with the collaboration of illycaffè. On December 2, Ron Arad –one of the main international representatives of contemporary design– will be closing the program. Lü Peng –commissioner and researcher of Chinese contemporary art– and Giuseppe Liverani –editor and founder of Charta–, played the leading role during a meeting on the achievements and reach of the publishing house. A presentation on Chinese contemporary is going to be given on December 1 by Liu Wei, one of the most interesting young creators that presently work in China.

Galleria illy is a temporal expression space of illy’s philosophy and values, this Italian brand of high-quality coffee. It always handpicks a different city, leading creativity. illy has found in Beijing, the heart of Chinese thousand-year-old culture and now global and cosmopolitan metropolis, the same cultural blend and artistic contaminations that make up its DNA.
