The Reina Sofia National Museum and Art Center will be unveiling July 11-13 at the Nouvel Building, Transatlantic Encounters: Avant-Garde Discourses in Spain, Latin America. This international congress that gathers researchers, artists and curators from across the pond, will be coming up with a many-sided reflection on the vanguard notion likened to modernity’s experience and discourse between the 1920s and the 1970s.
The main objective behind this reflection is the transformation of political and esthetic avant-gardism within the framework of the first and second vanguards –a.k.a. neo-vanguard- as well as the role played by the exchange between Spain and Latin America in the creation and shaping of that notion. Through paper works and communications, the different sessions will shed light on the latest breakthroughs and exchanges between Spain and Latin America –poorly tapped to date- alongside the rethinking of histography and dominating discourses of both modernism and modernity.
