2014 MULAFEST to Take IFEMA with Urban Art

Once again, graffiti is going to play the leading role in 2014 MULAFEST, but this timeit will do it participative workshops organized by Family Schooland100x100 Madriz,which will be disclosing secrets of this art throughout the Festival, June26 - 29, in IFEMA. The SprayXpress Battle, in other words, battles of graffiti writers stand as the new element this year. This event marks the first time ever this discipline is promoted in Spain: six minutes, sixcans,two competitors and the best artist wins.

 

Heroes of MULAis the XXL-format photography display that describes the public of MULAFEST, made up of anonymous people from the undergroundculture and tattoo. 2.5-meter-high snapshots with plenty of passion, intensity, energy and beauty, taken by young artist Marta Rodríguez de Tena, to be viewed at pavilion 14.  

 

Illustrator Ricardo Cavolobrings color to MULAFEST with a participative mural that is set to become one of the largest ever made in Spain. It will begin in the base of the mural made last February within the framework of AULA show; 16 meters drawn and finished thanks to the help provided by students from the European University, and it is going to be enlarged with 10 meters during the Festival.

 

Wallpeople is Barcelona-based collaborative art project that invites people to create and take part in a unique moment in a specific space. This time around, the space is going to be one of IFEMA’s 24-square meter walls and ‘My Personal View (A título personal)’will be putting on the map all attendees as they’ll appear on one of the covers of El País Semanal.

 

This year’s new elements are joined by the exhibition of Beep ARCO Collection, the award given by ARCOmadrid every year, along with electronics stores leader Beep, one piece away from electronic art. Measuring Exercises on Mannered Movement of Hands(Ejercicios de medition sobre el movimiento amanerado de las manos)by Manu Arregi (winner of 2014 edition), The EKRMZ TRILOGYby Ubermorgen.com (winner of 2009edition) andIndependent Robotic Communityby Ricardo Iglesias and Gerard Kloger (winner of 2006edition) are the works to be showcased.

 

The European Universitycollaborates with MULAFEST with a project that will include four proposals by art and design students. Living Cups,The OMNI (Unidentified Mulafest Object), Café ConnectionandGet Rich. Self Service.

 

The art offer is enriched this year with the organization, along with DGT, of the 1st National Illustration Contest ‘Move Safely(Muévete con seguridad)’targeting illustrators and graphic designers. The winner is going to be given 750€ and the opportunity to join the design and creativity team for 2015MULAFEST. The second position will receive 500€ and there is 250€ for the third one. Furthermore, ten consolation prizes are going to be given, 100€ each, and tickets to the festival for all of the competitors. The 100 finest posters are going to be displayed on the walls of the pavilions throughout the event.

 

Finally, it’s important to underline the participation of Lana Connection with intervention of an old Citroën 2 model.

It is Madrid’s Festival of Urban Trends and Culture, organized by MULA and IFEMA, and it’s scheduled to hold its third editionon June 26 - 29. An agglutinating event on urban culture, where creativity and alternative talent are encouraged. Only one space –Madrid’s Fair– gathers enthusiasts of tattoo, motor, underground art, music, breakdance, skate…, which is also going to house a huge Street food area, where visitors will have the opportunity to taste the latest international gastronomic trends on street food.
