2014 PHotoEspaña Pays Tribute to Spanish Photography with over One Hundred Shows by 440 Artists

The 17th edition of the Festival dedicates its program to Spanish photography and proposes a tour throughout different generations and approaches from its origins to date, thus shedding light on it richness, energy and plurality. PHE14 is going to be attended by 440 visual artists, 70 percent of which are Spanish, including Josep Renau, Joan Vilatobà, Ortiz Echagüe, Eugeni Forcano, Alberto Schommer, Ramón Masats, Cristina García Rodero, Cristóbal Hara, Koldo Chamorro, Alberto García-Alix, Pablo Genovés, Jordi Socías, Pilar Pequeño, Cristina de Middel, Ricky Dávila, Rosell Meseguer, Linarejos Moreno, Miguel Ángel Tornero and Óscar Monzón. The Festival displays 108 shows curated by such experts as Joan Fontcuberta, José María Parreño, Josep Vicent Monzó, Oliva María Rubio, Rafael Levenfeld, Valentín Vallhonrat, Cristina Zelich, Luis Díaz, Iñaki Domingo, Charlotte Cotton, Iñaki Bergera, Horacio Fernández, María Millán and Julio César Abad. Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, Alcobendas, Cuenca, Getafe and Zaragoza are set to host PHE14, which this time will be exceptionally holding 8 exhibitions in other six cities. The program also includes photography workshops, presentations of portfolios, guided visits, family workshops, screenings, one photo-book fair and contests One Day in the Life of Madrid (Un día en la vida de Madrid) and Photographic Memories (Memorias fotográficas). The 17th edition of PHotoEspaña, which has recently received the Gold Medal to the Merit on Fine Arts, is scheduled to take place Jun 4 – July 27, although many exhibitions will be still open in August and September. Trasatlántica PHotoEspaña, the forum on photography and visual arts in Latin America developed with AECID, is going to be held in October and December. Source: Press release
