International Book Fair of Havana will be extended until April

The traditional International Book Fair, formerly held in February, will be extended next year until the month of April in its 24edition number, according to statements by Jesus David Curbelo, Vice President for International Relations of the Cuban Book Institute.

 

The purpose is to deepen in authors and works, since the amplitude of the event allows the writers of the country to present their books in several provinces and, thus intensifying the promotion of reading.

 

The idea is that the fair expires in sequence and befall several instructional activities in the rest of the year, since then the Book Fair at the Mountain and College Festival of Books and Reading  take place, Curbelo said.

 

He said that the Guest of Honor Country in  2015 will be India and for that a heavy promotion strategy is conceived taking into account that represents a distant literature for the Cuban nation.

 

It should be published- the writer said- thirty Indian classical texts and some of these titles will be reissues in Cuba, in addition to the copies that will be brought to the Caribbean country.

 

Curbelo said the assistance of nations like Argentina, Mexico and the United States are expected.

 

An extensive project is designed, with theoretical, historical, literary, musical, dramatic, commercial and promotional spaces, for the sake of spreading the culture he said.

 

Under the theme Leer es crecer, the International Book Fair 2015 will celebrate the centenary of the birth of the educator, poet and writer Raul Ferrer (Yaguajay, Sancti Spiritus, May 4, 1915-Havana, January 12, 1993) and the 50th anniversary of the Fight Against Bandits.

 

This cultural event will be dedicated to the Historian Olga Portuondo and writer, essayist and musician Leonardo Acosta, National Prize of Social Science and History, and National Book Award, respectively.
