Pinta MODERN announces participating galleries

Carlos Rojas (Galeria El Museo) Untitled from the serie Papeles pegados (1959)In its eighth year of existence, Pinta reiterates its interest in the dissemination of art from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, providing ample support to the arts and confirming its commitment to contributing important chapters which are part of the history of Latin American art.

The Pinta MODERN section promotes the diffusion of modern art, supporting artists whose work, in most cases, has not achieved the deserved circulation or international projection, and in this way provides visibility to established artists, while also serving as a legitimating platform for the acquisition programs of different international museums and institutions interested in enlarging their collections.

Antonio Assis (KaBe Contemporary) Geometries Spatiale Bleue #3052 (1966)Thus, Pinta MODERN, the section of the fair dedicated to mainstream artworks and galleries and curated by Osbel Suárez, announces for this Miami 2014 edition the presence of important local and international galleries, among them, Oscar Ascanio, Miami; Mercantil Arte y Cultura A.C, Enlace-Il Chiostro, Lima/Saronno,Caracas; Galería El Museo, Bogotá; Galería Guerra, Montevideo; Galería Teresa Anchorena, Buenos Aires ; Imaginart, Barcelona; KA.BE. Miami; Ranivilu, Miami and Sammer, also in Miami.

For the selection of galleries and artists to participate in Pinta MODERN, curator Osbel Suárez emphasizes the importance of Geometric Abstraction as a fundamental axis for the progress and incorporation of modernism in Latin American art. In this edition, Suárez proposes to rescue and exhibit, alongside internationally renowned established artists, artists from countries whose histories have not been the subject of in-depth studies. Thus, artists from Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Cuba will be widely represented on this occasion, in the hope of broadening the channels for the diffusion of their work in order to contribute to a more complete historiography for the study of Geometric Abstraction as a fundamental pillar for the artistic approach of the continent.

Osbel Suárez served as curator and coordinator of exhibitions at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía from 1999 until 2002, and at a later stage at Cifo Europe, until 2012. He has curated exhibitions such as Cruz Diez, El color sucede for the Museu d`Art Espanyol Contemporani in 2009, and América Fría. La abstracción geométrica de Latinoamérica (1934-1973), in 2011. He has written numerous curatorial texts for exhibitions by Julio Le Parc, Ana Mercedes Hoyos, Antonio Asís, and Leo Matiz, among other artists. He is currently preparing a retrospective exhibition of the work of Raúl Lozza for the MDC Freedom Tower in Miami.
