Art Basel comes to Miami, a city where art is the protagonist

At first glance, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Miami seem to have much in common. Due to their cultures, traditions and foods, these places are far from resemble, but one thing unites them: art. It specifically addresses a large exhibition called Art Basel. And the turn of Florida is from Thursday, December 4th  through Sunday 7th . Where? In the Miami Beach Convention Center.

 

This event was created in 1970 by artists living in the city of Basel, located in Switzerland. At that time, Trudi Bruckner, Balz Hilt and Ernst Beyeler were working as "merchants of art" and were famous for being extremely knowledgeable on the subject.
Then in 1973, the show -of independet character was massive and welcomed 281 exhibitors and over 30,000 visitors. Some three decades later, exactly in 2002, Art Basel passed the Swiss border and arrived in America, to be exact, to Miami Beach.
 

Then in 2013, the show came back across geographical boundaries and also settled in Hong Kong. Thus, every June is the turn of Switzerland in winter corresponds to the United States and in May the Asian city.
 

 

High expectations

 

 

Art Basel, when started in the town to which it owes its name had among its exhibitors to hundreds of artists, but in Miami Beach that amount multiplied by far reaching accommodate up to 50,000 people related to art, including curators, collections, dealers, critics and creators as well as 150 museums and institutions around the world, being partakers of the event.

 

The exhibition thus became one of the most famous and important art fairs of the planet. Therefore, in this 2014 it is supposed to involve more than 75,000 people, excluding international visitors.

 

This year the number of galleries of modern and contemporary art reaches 260 between the main area called Galleries and complementary: Nova, Positions, Edition, Kabinett, Public, Film, Magazines and novel Survey, which sees the light for the first time in this year.

 

Art Basel is also an event that everyone expects a lot and it has been said more than good. Last year Pierre Levai, director of Marlborough Gallery, said to the portal artnews.com that this fair was the best he had attended throughout Miami, especially because he managed to sell about 30 artworks, including paintings and sculptures.

 

While the co-owner Galerie Thomas -in Munich, Germany-Silke Thomas, told the same website, that the provision of space at the event is innovative, and allows to find any display easily and quickly.
