Cuba's Casa de las Americas Receives Audiovisuals Donation

Estela BravoHavana.- The library of the Cuban Casa de las Americas has received today a donation of digital archives with a great part of the audiovisual work by U.S. filmmakers Estela and Ernesto Bravo.

Those materials are part of the project of restoration and archiving, undertaken by New York University (NYU).

Through this action, both institutions pretend to strengthen cooperation levels and offer a specie of homage to those filmmakers.

The ceremony within the Manuel Galich hall will include the screening of one of the documentaries that are part of the digitized archives, "Conversando con Garcia Marquez sobre su amigo Fidel" (Talking with Garcia Marquez about his friend Fidel).

According to U.S. writer Alice Walker, Estela Bravo's films are the work of an intelligent heart, they are touching, informative, challenging, all at once.

Directors and experts of the two institutions will attend the presentation, among them the dean of the Division of Libraries at NYU, Carol Mandel, and the collection development director and bibliographers for Latin America in the university itself, Angela Carreño.

Among the donated materials are valuable archives recorded for the production of documentaries, one of them unpublished works that depict important scenes in the history of Latin America and the world.
