Interactive exhibition to explore the García Márquez work in ARCO Madrid

The work of the Colombian Nobel Prize Gabriel García Márquez will be explored in an interactive exhibition in Madrid starting on February 27, as part of the ARCO art fair.

The exhibition titled "Journey through States of the word", an art installation that reflecting the cultural link between Spain and Colombia, will be displayed at the Matadero Reader’s House until March 3, the Telephonic Spanish multinational company announced today.

"Interactive exhibition symbolizes a tour through the work of Gabriel García Márquez through a selection of literary fragments referring to the sea connecting both countries and it is present in almost all his works," according to the announcement.

In this exhibition, which is supported by the Embassy of Colombia in Spain, you can see a 'literary journey' between the two countries from literary fragments of Gabriel García Márquez.

The creative concept of the exhibition comes from the speech "Botella al mar para el dios de las palabras" (Bottle to the sea for the God of the words) the 1982 Nobel Prize for literature gave at the I International Congress of the Spanish language held in Zacatecas (Mexico) in 1997.

In that tour, García Márquez "reflects on the power of the word in the age of the image and the necessity to release it from its strict rules ".

With " Travesía por los estados de la palabra" the visitors will have the opportunity to make a tour from Cartagena de Indias, where the writer lived his youth, through the screening of a video-art, in which different collective artistic and characters from the Colombian cultural scene make a collective reading of fragments of his work.

That reading "symbolically released" the words, in which different artists will take part to finally be materialized in words 3D creating this way an interactive sea, the information added.

This year, Colombia is the guest country at the ARCO Madrid to be held on February 25.
