About travels to distant lands and meetings of cultures is the work by the young Panamanian artist Antonio José Guzmán who will represent his country at the 12th edition of the Havana Biennial, announced the local media.

During the event, Guzman who is also photographer and the communicator in this edition will present a project called El Órgano Oriental (an organ typical of the eastern region in Cuba), an example of appropriation and integration of cultural elements and tendencies through the history, according to Guzman.

For Guzman, this musical instrument represents a cultural richness of Cuba while its capacity of adaptation to different cultures is similar to traditions used in Ámsterdam, Holanda.

The scores used for this type of organ seem series of AND, and he explained that his project contains genetic information of his native ancestors, American, African and the Spanish Sephardi.

"I also will make copies of the books for the organ at great scale with a laser robot, Guzman explained. The work will include installation, map, genetic studies and photography.

Guzam said that he will make a safari throughout Panama in 2016 along with The State of L3, a contemporary art group composed of 7 artists of different countries, to set a project of cultural appropriation and ethnography that will be showed by the end of this year in Taiwan.

Guzman who shares his inspiration and work between Ámsterdam, Panamá, his homeland and Dakar has exhibited his works in some installations around the world such as the MHKA Museum of Contemporary Art, in Antwerp, the Arhus Gallery in Denmark and Corridor Gallery, in New York.

Guzma has also participated at the Biennial of Dakar, Senegal and the Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates. In 2013, his work was part of the First Biennial in the South "Emplazando mundos", carried out in Panama.

The Havana Biennial will take place from May 22 to June 22 with the presence of 150 international artists.
