Bogota.- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos will open today the 28th International Book Fair of Bogota (FILBO), which will honor this year Nobel prizewinner for Literature Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The presence of Santos in FILBO's opening ceremony was confirmed by the Press Department of the Nariño Palace.
Santos will be present at the Corferia center, particularly for the opening of the Pavilion Macondo, which will exhibit the life and work of Marquez, distinguished son of the Colombian small town of Aracataca.
FILBO will run until May 4 exhibiting the latest news of the literature world and will also host the 7th International Meeting on Journalism, which includes a series of lectures on women and a forum on the scale of values of publishing houses, among other activities.
The Colombian Chamber of the Book, main organizer of this event, said that Macondo was chosen as "honor guest" to meet the wishes expressed by various artistic sectors of the country, which wanted to pay a special tribute to Garcia Marquez, on occasion of the first year of his death in Mexico city.
As FILBO special guests, many specialists on the work of Garcia Marquez have already arrived in Bogota, like biographers Gerald Martin and Dasso Saldivar, as well as translator to Chinese language Fan Ye and to Portuguese Eric Nepomuceno.
