The popular Rumba Palace in the Havana municipality of Centro Habana will host a special project on August 12 by the Team Cuba Rumba project to mark the 89th birthday of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro.
The 17th “Big Rumba for Immense Men” as the project has been named, will also be dedicated to the birthdays of Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, two of the five Cubans who served long prison sentences in the U.S.
The president of honor of the event is outstanding pianist Frank Fernandez. The initiative is sponsored by the Cuban Music Institute, the International Committee for Peace and Justice and the Ignacio Piñeiro Music company.
Celebrations for Fidel Castro´s birthday also include a children carnival parade in Havana, along with book launchings, and workshops on historic deeds, and a camping night by young people in the eastern locality of Biran, Fidel´s hometown in Holguin Province.
