Vladimir Malakhov dance contest returns

The second edition of the North Atlantic Dance Contest and Vladimir Malakhov Grand Prix will take place from September 24 to October 3, 2015, in Holguin eastern Cuban province.

Like in the first edition, the Codanza Choreography Grand Prix has been kept, while dancers between 18 and 35 years may opt for the Interpretation Grand Prix named after this great star of Ukrainian origin.

To these awards join, this year, the recognition to the best company, the Paul Seaquist award, one of the event's sponsors, and the Audience Award, as reported at a press conference by teacher Maricel Godoy, director of Codanza company, host of this contest.

We learn so far the registration figures for this contest exceeds the 69 participants from 2014, while, this time, there will be representatives from Dominican Republic, Mexico, United States and most of Cuba.

Danza Espiral, Danza del Alma, Ebony, Ballet Contemporáneo Art de Dance, Ballet de Cámara de Holguín, Médula, Danza Libre and Codanza are some of the companies to attend this contest.

The professor announced that one of the awards granted to the best dancers will consist of a scholarship in the United States with the Alvin Ailey Company of New York, while a Swiss company has been invited to perform its choreographies and teach European contemporary techniques workshops.

Vladimir Malakhov is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century by the contributions of his technique and interpretation to contemporary art and his work as artistic director of the Berlin Opera Ballet.
