Rituales, arts exhibit by Zaida del Rio in Italy

The personal exhibition Rituales (Rituals) by Zaida del Rio was inaugurated in the Hernandez Art Gallery of Milan in an exhibition area. The exhibit includes the latest work of one of the most respected artists in Cuba as a multifaceted figure, expanding her work from painting, design, engraving, decorative ceramics, murals to poetry, inspired by her surroundings, especially in her beloved Cuba.

The exhibition, which will remain open until the 27th of November, had the collaboration of the Cuban Embassy in Italy; it aims at introducing this artist, already famous worldwide, to the Italian public with the performance of his solo show including a series of works of large and medium size, that accompany the visitor towards the artist’s interior, discovering and investigating the interior of each of us. Hence the title of the exhibition Rituales, which reminds us that everything we do in life, every choice, whether big or small, becomes a personal and inner ritual.

In Zaida del Rio’s works there is a strong link between human beings and the nature that surrounds them, who she depicts as dancing figures through different worlds and idyllic, almost dreamlike universes. Inspired by the Cuban tradition, she gives great importance to the female figure, always present in her work, represented as a winged being that becomes a bird within lush tropical vegetation. Another constant in her paintings is water, vital symbol from which everything is generated, the primary element that gives life and, therefore, is associated with the woman who becomes his goddess, the goddess Oshun, Virgen del Cobre and Patron saint of Cuba.

In her paintings you can also note an immediate reference to the Buddhist world and philosophy, dances and rituals of the Hindu tradition, which have always fascinated her and are part of Zaida del Río’s artistic and spiritual life.

The skill and grace of her brush take over the forms with a combination of hedonism and spirituality that merge, where the almost impressionistic brushstrokes combine with daring chromatics.
