Cuba’s Symphony Orchestra to close 2015 with a premier by Guido Lopez-Gavilan

Cuba’s National Symphony orchestra will offer a concert here on December 23 to close 2015, and it will premiere a piece by Cuban composer Guido Lopez-Gavilan, as informed the direction of the orchestra.

 

Teatro Nacional’s Covarrubias Room will host the presentation of the piece by Lopez-Gavilan, one of the most prolific director and creators in Cuba, recently granted the 2015 National Music Award.

 

Directed by the maestro, the Symphony Orchestra will perform pieces by Finish composer Johan Julius Christian Sibelius and Eclipse and Viernes de ciudad, by pianist Aldo Lopez Gavilan, who will be a guest artist in the concert. This young instrumentalist, nominated to the Latin Grammy Awards for his album En el ocaso de la hormiga y el elefante, will be accompanied by his brother, the violinist Ilmar Lopez Gavilan.

 

Since its foundation on October 7, 1959, the Orchestra has venerated Cuban, Latin American and universal music in different periods and stylistic trends.  During all these years it has performed didactic concerts, national tours and it has accompanied lyrical and ballet performances.
