Cienfuegos to host Jury of the 57th Casa de las Americas Literary Award

For the fifteenth time the Jagua Hotel in Cienfuegos province will welcome the jury of the Casa de las Americas Literary Award, now in its 57th edition. The jury will evaluate unpublished works in the genres and categories of short stories, plays and essays of literary and artistic theme.

 

Lianet Hernandez, specialist from the Communication and Image Department from Casa de las Americas, said ACN news agency that in a press conference scheduled  in the hotel for next January 8, it will be announced by the jury members and the amount of works in competition.

 

According to the website of the cultural institution, this year’s edition will run from January 18 to 28, and it will be also granted the Award on studies about native cultures of America.

 

As it is tradition, the Casa de las Americas will grant three honorary awards: the José Lezama Lima in Poetry, the José María Arguedas in Narrative and the Ezequiel Martínez Estrada in Essays top relevant writings in Latin American letters whose first edition in Spanish corresponds to the years 2013 or 2014.

 

In the past edition, the Casa Award in Poetry was granted to Bajo el brillo de la luna, by Nelson Romero, from Colombia; in Novel to La hoguera lame mi piel con cariño de perro, by Adelayda Fernandez, from Colombia, and in Literature for Children and Young People to the work El niño congelado, by Mildre Hernandez, from Cuba.

 

Likewise, Cuba año 2015, by Cuban Juan Ferran won in Social Historic Essay category and the novel Minha vida sem banho, by Bernardo Ajzenberg won in Brazilian Literature in the 2015’s edition.
