Sensual Havana under the lens of a Cuban photographer

Havana. - A different look to the world of ballet and ballet dancers, now away from the stage, proposes Cuban photographer Gabriel Dávalos with the exhibit Habana Sensual that he organizes in the Cuban capital city.

The inauguration of the exhibit of 26 pieces from the Habana Sensual series, published  in the homonymous book by Ediciones Cubanas publishing house with curatorial work of Yessi Montes de Oca will take place next January 8.

The Palacio de Lombillo—located in the most antique part of the city—will present the images taken during three years to classic ballet local dancers in this capital’s streets until February 27.

These dancers belong to different international prestigious companies like the Cuba’s National Ballet, the American Ballet Theater, the English National Ballet, the Arizona Ballet, and the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, among others.

A piece will be raffle during the inauguration and will be available for sale the book Habana Sensual.

According to the exhibit’s author, “there is no more accurate language to describe this city and the people inhabiting it than the language of dance”.

Dávalos considers that everything is sensuous in the Cuban capital: “from the way we move in our everyday lives, how we express, the looks, to the texture of the stones in the colonial walls, the destroyed bricks, and the architecture ".

Habana Sensual tries to capture some stories of the city and the people living in it through the universal language of dance.

Gabriel Dávalos (1981), graduated of Journalism at the University of Havana, has been dedicated to photography for some years and his love for a ballet dancer brought him closer to dance.

His work has been presented in Cuba, Spain, United States and South Korea and in 2015 he won in Colombia the Photography Prize of contemporary dance and new trends: Urdimbre, danza en la red.
