Cuban Puppeteers Honored by the Latin ACE Awards

Matanzas.- The Association of Latin Entertainment Critics (ACE) of New York announced the winners of the 2016 awards, among which are included four members of the Cuban Teatro Las Estaciones Theater Company. The director general of the famous puppet company, Ruben Dario Salazar, won in the category of Best Children's Theatre Production with the play Por el Monte Carulé. In the same category but in Musical Theatre, Zenen Calero's set design (Teatro Las Estaciones), obtained the award with the staging of the play La Gloria, un cabaret latino, directed and produced by Puerto Rican Manuel Moran, director of Teatro SEA.

 

Salazar also won in the Best Director of Children's Theatre category with Por el Monte Carulé, while actor Ivan Garcia was honored in the Best Performance in Children Theater category.

 

Both La Gloria and Por el Monte Carulé were written by the Cuban playwright Norge Espinosa.

 

'Las Estaciones is not vain, but we received the awards with joy, because it is a recognition of the art of puppetry', said Salazar to Prensa Latina.

 

'Between September and October 2015', he added, 'we made our third visit to the United States, and the ACE proposal is the result of the possibility gave to Cuban artists to perform in that country like the other Hispanic theater companies.

 

ACE bestowed more than 40 awards. The next ACE Awards ceremony will take place on March 29, 2016 in the restaurant Mexican Festival on Broadway.

 

Founded two decades ago in Matanzas, Teatro Las Estaciones is a reference in the art of puppetry, has obtained national and foreign awards, and has made numerous artistic tours by several countries.
