Pablo Milanés and José María Vitier to record together

By Alain Valdés

Cuban musicians Pablo Milanés and José María Vitier join their talents for the first time to produce two albums entitled Canción de otoño and Flor oculta de la vieja trova, both with anthological songs of the Cuban musical scenario.

After a long wait the first one of the albums will be on the market; just after being announced the record has become one of the most awaited of the latest times.

Canción de otoño was presented in January during the concerts both artists offered at Havana’s Teatro Mella and has its origin in the exchanges they had during the first months of 2014.

The Cuban pianist is the author of the greatest part of the texts in the album sang by Milanés, although there are others by great authors of the Hispanic American literature like Gabriela Mistral, Fina García Marruz or Federico García Lorca.

The album, produced by BisMusic record label, is named after the homonymous piece in Vitier’s record  Canciones del buen amor (Unicornio 2002) and which is at the same time inspired in the poem by Nicaraguan poet Ruben Darío entitled  Amor de otoño en primavera.

In the case of the album Flor oculta de la vieja trova, it includes a repertoire, as Vitier told the press, which is less known and which totally belongs to journalist and researcher Lino Betancourt, who also wrote the album’s notes.

From the musical point of view, the album bases in the combination of piano and voice and will be commercialized thanks to Abdala and BisMusic recording houses.
