Cuban Book Fair, a Celebration of National Culture

Havana.- After concluding the stage hosted by Havana, the 25th International Book Fair of Cuba 2016 was described as the most important cultural event of this island in terms of participation. According to Vice President of the Cuban Book Institute Edel Morales the first stage of the event reached a high professional level as it gathered important personalities from the literature sector.

In that sense, Morales underlined the presence in Havana representatives of Saint-Petersburg Book Salon, in Russia, and the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany, the world's most important book fair.

The stage hosted by the capital brought together proposals from 37 countries and managed to import the logic of the universality of the Cuban culture.

Dedicated to local writers Lina de Feria and Rogelio Martinez Fure, National Literature Prize 2015, the Cuban book fair had the Oriental Republic of Uruguay as a guest country of honor.

During the 10-day event, the Uruguayan stand remained full of people due to the obvious public preference texts written by the three giants of Uruguayan literature: Eduardo Galeano, Mario Benedetti and Juan Carlos Onetti.

However, according to the president of the Uruguayan Book Chamber, Jorge Saracini, the books of the Uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez and Senator Jose Mujica, were also among the most sought-after books.
