EGREM to present president Barack Obama with a vinyl record of Los Van Van produced with Sony Music

The general director of the leading Cuban record company EGREM, Mario Escalona, sent to President Barack Obama during his visit to the island, a copy of the vinyl record La Fantasia, the most recent album produced by the legendary Cuban orchestra Los Van Van and presented to the audience as part of the agreements signed between EGREM and the US Sony Music Entertainment last September.

Sarah Seck, the president’s assistant, received the copy and promised to have the album delivered to the president, who attended an unprecedented business forum US-Cuba, held last Monday and which was attended by about 200 businessmen and entrepreneurs of the two countries.

In addition to participating in the discussion sessions and talks with President Obama, Escalona shared with their US counterparts in a table dedicated to art and culture, also with the presence on the Cuban side of Fernando Rojas, deputy Minister of Culture, Eladio Marrero, president of Artex, and prominent Cuban singer and actor, Yotuel, former member of the group Orishas.

This deluxe record of La Fantasia contains the last recording of maestro Juan Formell, one of the glories of Cuban popular music, and it is a symbol of the new stage of the relations between both countries, particularly in music, in which this collaboration registers as a an impulse to take the spreading of Cuban music to a global scale.
