Jean Tinguely. Super Meta Maxi

Marking the 25th anniversary of the artist’s death, the Museum Kunstpalast presents the multifaceted œuvre of Jean Tinguely (1925-1991), co-founder of Le Nouveau Réalisme and one of the most original artists of his time.

The exhibition offers a comprehensive insight into Tinguely’s fascinating and joyfully sensuous work, while also illuminating his collaborations with fellow artists including Daniel Spoerri, Eva Aeppli, Yves Klein, Bernhard Luginbühl and Niki de Saint Phalle—his long-term partner whom he ultimately married.

Conceived in cooperation with the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum Tinguely in Basel, Jean Tinguely. Super Meta Maxi gathers more than 90 loans from museums and private collections. Works exhibited range from Tinguely’s early, tenderly poetic wire sculptures and kinetic reliefs to his famous 'painting machines' and expansive installations, including the monumental installation 'Grosse Méta-Maxi-Maxi Utopia'.
