Cuban Documentary to Participate in Film Festival in Trieste

HAVANA, Cuba.- The documentary Piedras y Almas (Stones and Souls), by Cuban Carlos Collazo, was selected to participate in the Latin American Film Festival of Trieste, to be held on October 22-30 in Italy.

 

In its 31st edition, the Festival will pay tribute to Argentinean filmmaker Fernando Birri, one of the founders of the San Antonio de los Baños International Film and Television School.

 

In 53 minutes, the audiovisual material is an approach to the history of Havana's movie theaters since 1897, year in which film projectors were introduced in the country, and criticizes the subsequent disappearance of many of those movie theaters, pointed out the documentary maker.    

 

The author of several documentaries, like Por siempre en mí (2015) and Con rosas y espinas (2012), a tribute to the life and work of famous Cuban actress Martha Jimenez Oropesa, Carlos Collazo is the scriptwriter, photographer and editor of all of his creations.

 

His 6th documentary, Piedras y almas, is an independent production made with the support of the ACTUAR Artistic Agency of Stage Arts and the Provincial Department of City Heritage of Havana.

 

After its premiere in Cuba in 2015, the documentary participated in the 37th edition of Havana's International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema.
