Factum Foundation. News & Project Updates

17 years after starting work in the Tomb of Seti I, Factum Foundation is now working with the Antikenmuseum Basel, the University of Basel and the Ministry of Antiquities in Egypt to present the exhibition: Scanning Seti: the regeneration of a Pharaonic tomb. The exhibition will include two complete rooms from the tomb of Seti I, a facsimile of the sarcophagus and tomb fragments recorded in various European and American collections.

Designed by Charlotte Skene Catling and Adam Lowe, the exhibition will incorporate a sensational mix of original and facsimile objects from different periods of time: 1817, 1917 and 2017, sparking  a debate about the dynamic nature of originality.

After the exhibition, the facsimile of the two rooms from the tomb of Seti I will be donated to the Arab Republic of Egypt, where they will be installed next to the Foundation´s facsimile of the Tomb of Tutankhamun. Both will be housed beneath the 3D Scanning, Archiving and Training Centre at Hassan Fathy´s Stoppelare House on the West Bank in Luxor.

The facsimile is being created using the latest advances in printing technologies developed by Océ Printing.  With this technology, it is possible to re-materialize data at the level of a few microns, producing results that exceed previous methods.
