Passions burst in Spain

As soon as the diva Alicia Alonso arrived in Spain, with the support not only of her legendary career, enriched by years of triumphs on the stages of half of the world, but also for her other notable creation: the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), the media were questioning her about how she received the news that henceforth the iconic Gran Teatro de La Habana will take her famous name.

«When they told me I thought, Oh, no, no, no!. I felt like everything was falling over me. Later I sat down to analyze it. The honor is great, but I am calm. The greatest joy is that I have been granted in life, these things are usually reserved for the dead», she said to ABC, who became interested in this singular fact that the Council of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba turned a historical event just shortly before the recognized company that the great artist leads left for the Iberian peninsula with the purpose of fulfilling the commitments announced in the Canal Theatre in Madrid, from September 18 to October 4. The poster is composed by pieces in the style of The Swan Lake, Don Quixote and Carmen, the latter in a concert program which also appear Les Sylphides by Fokine, and Celeste by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.

This is the proposal that the company will perform until November 7, in twelve other Spanish cities: Barcelona, Cuenca, Pamplona, Bilbao, Burgos, Leon, Zamora, Palencia, Oviedo, Soria, Aranda de Duero and San Sebastian. At this time, the company will make only a space to debut in Oman in the Opera House of Muscat.

Now it has become almost customary that in this time of year, with the coming of autumn, the main dance group in the Island takes its acclaimed art to this part of Europe.

And at least in Madrid they are awaited with excitement, as admitted in its pages the same ABC by claiming that Cubans «are still a relieved oasis to which the Madrid fans could lean on, who know the repertoire thanks mainly to the staging of the BNC».
